Week 7: 2012 // Futures Illustration – Love and Respect

Throughout 2012 we are sharing an illustration with you every week to help you to re-imagine the future that you choose. For the seventh week of 2012 , we are sharing Think Act Vote (?!X) Founder Amisha Ghadiali‘s future. We picked this one as it speaks of love, respect and creativity, and this week was host to Valentines Day, which we love how the guys at Holstee have reimagined as Generosity Day, “one day of sharing love with everyone, of being generous to everyone, to see how it feels and to practice saying “Yes.” Let’s make the day about love, action and human connection.”

Amisha Ghadiali's Future by Vicky Fallon

Amisha Ghadiali’s Future:

I choose a future that is driven by love and respect not fear and greed. We’ll all be on the same side and working together in support of each other. We’ll be using our creative energy to solve the world’s problems and we’ll be having fun whilst we’re doing it. The future I choose is one where it is sexy and cool to care about the planet and its people.

Illustrated by Vicky Fallon:

I chose Amisha’s future as I felt automatically drawn to it – creatively and personally. This is where my inspiration came from. I created two girls on each side of the world to represent how we need to support one another and work together. By showing them painting was my interpretation of how we can solve this with our creative energies whilst having fun! Amisha outlined her future so well in just a few words, I aimed to create the same in my artwork in a clear, bold and exciting way.

Week 6: 2012 // Futures Illustration – I Am Not A Party

Throughout 2012 we are sharing an illustration with you every week to help you to re-imagine the future that you choose. For the sixth week of 2012, we are sharing iconic Fashion Designer, Katharine Hamnett’s Future.

Katharine Hamnett's Future by Faye West

Katharine Hamnett’s Future:

I would like to see a future where we had the dictionary definition of democracy, government by the people, for the people and tolerating minority views. Politicians are a vested interest group only in politics to get re-elected, we should let them know by letter and email what our views are and tell them that if they don’t represent our views in parliament we wont vote for them next time.We need to get our elected representatives to represent the majority view of there constituency on every issue, no more towing the party line and being forced to vote with the government. We can do this by having national and constituency referenda and a civil service to implement them and administer the country according to the results. If we had had this, we wouldn’t have had an illegal war in Iraq, with thousands of innocent lives lost. We wouldn’t be cutting much needed A&E’s. We wouldn’t be having to cut child benefit so we can pay bankers bonuses. Its our country and we as citizens should decide how its run, its our money, we should decide how it is spent. We can use our vote to get the country we want.

Illustrated by Faye West:

The first line of Hamnett’s future really rang true for me. I have no faith in our Government or many other countries’ Government for that matter. They do not seem to ever act in the interest of everyday people, or listen to them. I wanted a figure in my illustration that represented Democracy ; like the Statue of Liberty, or Justice reminds us of a value. I also wanted a nod to Hamnett’s slogan Tshirts and say something about there being too much emphasis on which party is in power.

Week 5: 2012 // Futures Illustration – Wild and Full

Throughout 2012 we are sharing an illustration with you every week to help you to re-imagine the future that you choose. For the fifth week of 2012 (wow it’s going fast!), we are sharing Joy Green’s future. Jo is Strategic Advisor at Forum For The Future.

Joy Green's Future illustrated by Anila Babla

Joy Green’s Future:

The future I choose is one where the cities are full of birds, the oceans are full of fish and the wild areas are coming back. And we all know how to grow vegetables!”

Illustrated by Anila Babla:

I chose this because the idea of having a 3D illustration teeming with life came to me fully formed and I knew I had to go with it! It was a very literal interpretation, but I challenge you (that’s myself too) to find underlying metaphorical/subliminal messages!

Futures Illustration – Illustrating Rain

We thought we would refresh our banner for our Futures Interview series and so asked our illustrator Kiran Patel of Illustrating Rain to create something for us. It is based on an abstract pattern that is ever evolving as the project progresses and the impact it has on more and more people.

Week 4: 2012 // Futures Illustration – Green. Not just a colour.

Throughout 2012 we are sharing an illustration with you every week to help you to re-imagine the future that you choose. For the fourth week of 2012, we are sharing Ed Gillespie’s future. Ed is co-founder of sustainability communications agency, Futerra.

Ed Gillespie's Future, illustrated by Joana Casaca Lemos

Ed Gillespie’s Future:

The Future I Choose is green. Not just a colour. Not just a political party. Not just a term for naivety! It’s a philosophy and a creative, experimental, cutting edge, super-sexy approach to life and lifestyle that is what the 21st century will be all about. Where we live, how we work together, how we get around, what we eat, where it grows, what fuels our fires, warms our hearts and inspires our minds – all are up for grabs… we’re beginning to realise consuming ever vaster quantities of ‘stuff’ ain’t making us happier (and we certainly can’t eat money), and that unequal societies make us sick – physically and mentally. The future I choose is in tune with the earth beneath our feet, recognises us as people not just consumers and celebrates our collective potential to do the right thing. And, I think we might even get there!

Illustrated by Joana Casaca Lemos:

The reference to color Green and all its different meanings, is what drew me to Ed Gillespie’s future. It allowed me to reflect on why a positive lifestyle is typically associated with just one color – green. Color swatch books are part of the designer’s toolkit. Inspired by Ed’s words, the swatch book has been re-branded to represent the infinite colors and tones that make up this “Green Future”. And, with the thought ‘think global, act local’ in mind, I have proudly used some images taken at home, in Portugal.
